BYD Shark Pickup Truck: Design, Engine, Features
The Shark pickup truck is based on the new 'Ocean' architecture by BYD. The same design platform is used for the BYD Seal as well which was launched recently in India. With conventional pickup looks, the Shark offers a sense of futuristic design elements like connected LED DRLs and the big BYD logo on the front. The flatbed capacity of the Shark stands at 835 kg.
In terms of features, it has a rather luxurious interior design. The big rotating infotainment screen and the digital cluster generate the appeal of being seated in a luxurious SUV. Moreover, the leather upholstery and chunky four-spoke steering wheel add to the luxury factor onto it. BYD has equipped connected features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and more.
Powering this truck is a combo of a 1.5-lt turbo-petrol engine that is mated to a plug-in-hybrid battery and motor. Its peak power output of 424bhp propels the Shark from 0-100 kmph in just 5.7s. Also, in a complete EV mode, it can cover up to 100 km and a combined range stands at 840 km.
The Shark pickup truck will be sold in the Mexican markets first. Its primary competitors will be the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger. While there is no hint from BYD about the future plans to introduce it in India, we are hopeful that it could prove to be a game changer. If launched in India, it could be priced somewhere around Rs 35 lakh mark.
