While the 5-door Thar is generating significant interest, Mahindra is also planning a refresh for the current 3-door Mahindra Thar. The introduction of the refreshed 3-door Thar should offer more options for consumers interested in this rugged SUV.
2024 Mahindra Thar 3-Door Hard Top Coming With A Sunroof? Documents Suggests So!
The upcoming 2024 Mahindra Thar 3-door seems to be getting some design tweaks to align it with the upcoming 5-door Thar without undergoing significant changes. These modifications include a new grille, LED headlights with integrated circular DRLs, and slight adjustments to the front and rear bumpers, all while maintaining the same length, width, and wheelbase as the current 3-door model.
Interestingly, the new homologation documents indicate a height increase of 11 mm, which could possibly be attributed to a new roof design, though the core dimensions remain consistent. This refresh aims to breathe new life into the 3-door Thar, which was initially launched in 2020.

The likelihood of the 11 mm increase in height being related to the incorporation of a sunroof is quite high. This speculation is supported by the presence of a single-pane sunroof in test mules of the upcoming 5-door Thar.
What Takes It Off The Road
The Thar is available in both a 4WD and a 2WD system. Where the 2WD is available in a 1.5-liter diesel and 2.0-liter petrol, the 4WD version comes with a 2.2-liter diesel and a 1.5-liter petrol unit. Both versions can be had with either a manual or an automatic transmission.
The 2.0-liter Petrol engine generates a power of 150bhp@5000rpm and torque of 320Nm@1500-3000rpm. The 1.5 liter Diesel engine generates a power of 116.93bhp@3500rpm and torque of 300Nm@1750-2500rpm. The 2.2-liter diesel engine puts out 130 Ps power with a peak torque of 300 Nm.
2024 Mahindra Thar: Expected Launch
While a formal intimation is still under tight lips, it makes sense that this updated Thar will hit the road alongside the 5-door iteration.
Verdict

While the 3-door version sells exceptionaly well, the 5-door version will expand greater horizons for the Indian carmaker.
