After the Mahindra Thar 5-Door was spied with a bigger infotainment screen, the same has been spotted yet again. But this time, there are new changes to the exterior of the vehicle. While the market is getting prepared to welcome the updated Tata Nexon facelift, this rugged SUV is attracting curious eyes as well.
Let's jump into the details and explain what's changing with this upcoming extra-doored Thar.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door- New Exterior Changes Incoming
The most recent batch of spy images showcases the forthcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door, giving a glimpse of its finalized body design. In the recent sighting of the Thar 5-door test prototype, a distinctive front grille took center stage. The grille boasts a configuration of six slats, separated horizontally down the middle. Flanking this grille are circular headlamps, and LED daytime running lights elegantly placed on the flared fenders. Additionally, the robust front bumper accommodates a pair of fog lamps as well.

For the 5-door variant are novel 5-spoke alloy wheels. Keen observers will also spot the rear windscreen, which is designed to be openable, and the practical side steps. Transitioning to the interior, the SUV now embraces a larger touchscreen head unit for enhanced infotainment capabilities as per the previous spy shots.
Interior: Now Gets A Bigger Infotainment Unit, Sunroof
The latest test mule sighting hints at a fresh and larger infotainment touchscreen, measuring approximately 9 to 10 inches. This marks a significant departure from the current 3-Door Mahindra Thar, which is fitted with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The updated touchscreen finds its place in a novel housing, promising customers an elevated interface and an improved overall user experience.
On top of this, a top-view spy shot gave away the single-pane sunroof on the 5-door version as well. While these are the notable changes spied so far, some more changes on the inside can be expected as well. A new upholstery, cabin theme, and some more advanced features are bound for this upcoming SUV.
Meanwhile, the brand has no plans to launch any new vehicles in 2023. This was confirmed officially and sets the timeline of its launch to sometime in 2024. This move possibly stems from a long-standing order list of the Mahindra XUV700 and the 3-door Thar, which still touch a waiting period of up to an year for some variants.
Engine Options
The engine choices for the Thar 5-door will mirror those available for the 3-door variant. These selections encompass a 2.2-liter diesel engine generating 130 BHP and 300 Nm of torque, as well as a 2.0-liter petrol engine with an output of 150 BHP and a torque range of 300-320 Nm. It is expected that both of these engines will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Verdict
In summary, the forthcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door edition presents an enticing evolution in design and features. With fresh exterior details showcased through recent spy shots, including a distinct grille, the vehicle's visual appeal is on the rise. The interior experience is set to be elevated with a larger touchscreen infotainment system, promising improved functionality. The continuation of the proven engine lineup, offering both diesel and petrol options with manual and automatic transmissions, ensures driving preferences are catered to. Furthermore, the emphasis on off-road capabilities, evident through the inclusion of a 4WD system for both variants, underscores the Thar's enduring reputation as a rugged performer.
