BMW R 1300 GS Adventure: Details

The GS Adventure is based on the standard R 1300 GS, but with a few differences here and there. Both motorcycles are built on the same sheet metal shell frame, but the Adventure replaces the aluminium rear sub-frame with a lattice tube rear frame, which is also made of aluminium and other forged parts. Just in case you were wondering about the bulky fuel tank, it can store upto 30-litres of fuel!

This frame is suspended on the Evo Telelever and Paralever suspension, with electronic adjustability as standard, and the bike also gets a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel setup with cross-spoke rims, and disc brakes on both ends.

Powering the GS Adventure is the same 1300cc, twin boxer engine, producing 143bhp at 7750rpm and 149Nm of torque at 6500rpm. The Adventure has become the first Beemer in the lineup to come with the Automated Shift Assistant, which takes away the need of a conventional clutch lever, and instead it gets two modes which can be used to operate it; the fully-automatic 'D' mode, and the 'M' mode that will allow you to use the gearbox with your foot, but without a clutch lever. Think of how clutchless manual cars work and you might get the picture. This is available only as an option on the GS Trophy and the Option 719 variant.

The Adventure also comes with a 6.5-inch TFT screen, along with a keyless system, heated grips, hand guards with turn-indicators, engine drag torque control, hill-start control, riding modes, and cruise control. The Option 719 variant adds on active cruise control, front collision warning, and lane change warning.

Verdict

The R 1300 GS Adventure is for those who want something extra from their adventure bike, as it not only gets a 30-litre fuel tank, but it also comes with electronically-adjustable suspension, along with things like active cruise control. At a small price hike over its predecessor, the R 1300 GS Adventure is likely to tempt buyers in this segment.
