- Hyundai Exter Electric makes spy shot debut
- Poses as a rival to upcoming Punch EV
- Launch sometime in early 2024
Since its launch, Hyundai Exter has been a great hit for the brand. With its competitive pricing and comprehensive feature list, the journey is set in a rolling motion. And this is not just empty talk, it is pretty much backed up by numbers. You can gauge the craze from the fact that 7000 units are sold in its first month of retail. But now, it's coming up in a new avatar altogether and you can guess it by now.
Yes! An Electric Hyundai Exter is caught testing on the road for the first time. Let's look at the details
Hyundai Exter Electric Spy Shots: What They Suggest
Hyundai Exter EV is set to mark the company's foray into the entry-level electric car segment in India. Currently, Hyundai exclusively offers premium EVs like the Ioniq 5 and Kona Electric in the country. While their global portfolio includes a variety of electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles, Exter EV opens up a new segment for the brand.
But why this urgency is a question that might come to your mind. The answer is simple. As the Exter rubs shoulders directly with Tata Punch, it lags behind given that Punch has been around for quite some time now. While Punch EV spy shots have emerged in the past, Hyundai wants to match the timeline with the launch of Punch EV. This is the reason that Hyundai wastes no time in getting on with its road tests.

Now coming back to the test mule, it is a direct descendent of the recently launched ICE Exter. The Exter EV is likely to feature front-end updates and distinctive EV badging. However, spy shots reveal a new set of wheels on the Exter EV model. Interior features are expected to remain largely consistent with the ICE Exter model. But the instrument cluster will be recalibrated to show the EV-specific information.
Coming to the range of the upcoming Exter EV, you can expect it to claim somewhere around the 350 km mark. As it also brings heat to the Citroen eC3 which claims a range of 320 km, similar estimates will be offered by both Punch EV and this test mule.
Hyundai Exter Features
The ICE variant of the SUV boasts several first-in-segment features, including a voice-enabled smart electric sunroof, a dashcam with dual cameras, paddle shifters, rear AC vents, footwell lighting, a wireless phone charger, 12 language support, and Alexa voice commands. Safety features also stand out with first-in-segment offerings like 6-airbags standard, a TPMS, hill start assist, a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, ESC, and vehicle stability management.
Meanwhile, pricing is a pivotal factor in determining the frontrunner in the micro-SUV electric segment, with Exter and Punch ICE models having closely matched pricing. However, in the CNG category, Punch has taken the lead with a starting price of Rs 7,09,900 lakh. On the other hand, Exter CNG starts at Rs 8,23,990. Hyundai is going for a competitive pricing approach for the upcoming Exter electric model. Whoever wins the price war, will get a humongous edge in a price-sensitive market like India.
Verdict
The Hyundai Exter showcases an array of pioneering features, from its voice-enabled smart electric sunroof to advanced safety systems like 6-airbags standard and vehicle stability management. With a competitive pricing strategy, the Exter Electric aims to make a significant impact in the micro-SUV electric segment, challenging its rivals and elevating the standards for electric SUVs.
