First Glimpse: Citroen Basalt Spotted Undisguised
This is the first time when the Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV has been spotted undisguised on roads. At first glance, it is reminiscent of the Citroen C3 Aircross from the front with look-alike elements of the front facia. It gets a squared-off d=headlmap design along with wraparound tail lamps.
This Tata Curvv rival exudes a blend of both robustness and modernity. While the SUV stance adds that ruggedness, the sloping roofline adds a touch of sportiness, that will attract a lot of new buyers. The rear profile is the main highlight with sharp lines sloping downwards. The quarter glass at the second row is non-existent, courtesy of its body frame. The rugged body cladding sits in tandem with the chunky bumpers that exudes a more sporty touch to the coupe SUV.
The Citroen Basalt's cabin echoes the refined style of its C3 and C3 Aircross siblings. A large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage, complemented by a modern 7-inch digital instrument cluster. However, it will kill one of the most critiqued aspects of previous Citroens, which is the omission of features.
Connectivity options abound, expect features like automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, and a convenient engine start-stop function. Keyless entry and power-adjustable wing mirrors with automatic dimming for the rearview mirror are expected to arrive with it as well. However, no information is available, but ADAS is likely to be offered, considering the latest launches offering the tech.

Powertrain Options
The upcoming Basalt Coupe SUV is likely to feature the identical 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine found in the C3 Aircross. This engine delivers 109 bhp of power and 205 Nm of peak torque. The brand may offer both a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission option with the SUV.
It is expected to be priced around in the range of Rs. 12 lakhs and will hit the showroom sometime in the second half of 2024
Verdict
Citroen is finally gearing up for a mass premium product with the Basalt and is looking forward to bury the earlier compalints. Keeping in mind that it will go head to head against the Tata Curvv, all the parameters need to be of premium quality, if it wants to seriously stand a chance.
