It is pretty obvious that the real expenses involved in the after-sales experience of a car are much more important than what you spend while buying the car. There are a number of expenses involved after you roll out your car from the showroom the insurance renewals, the PUC updates and most importantly, the service costs. Having said that, if you are wondering how much does a car service cost, here is the answer to your question.
The service costs of a car usually depend on a number of factors. First, it is the category in which your car belongs. The smaller the car or the cars engine, the least is the servicing costs involved. The segment of small cars which includes entry-level hatchbacks commands the least amount of servicing costs, followed by that of premium hatchbacks and compact sedans, compact SUVs, midsize SUVs and sedans, luxury sedans and SUVs and finally, the imports.
Secondly, it is the manufacturer of your car. The mass market-oriented car makers which are involved in the game of volumes do command lesser servicing costs than the ones whose volumes are involved. Car manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, Honda, Renault and Ford, which have more compact offerings than others, ask for lesser servicing costs than the manufacturers with bigger or more premium cars in their lineup like Volkswagen, Skoda, Mahindra, Kia and Toyota. The luxury car makers usually command hefty servicing costs.
Lastly, the type of fuel on which your car runs - the Indian car market, like others in the world, depends mostly on petrol and diesel as the two chief fuel options. And in this case, the petrol-powered vehicles ask for lesser servicing costs than the diesel-powered ones. Nowadays, in the case of new cars, car manufacturers usually do not ask for labour charges in the first three services of your car.
The general servicing costs for the small car segment, which involves the replacement of fluids and filters apart from the additional wear and tear component replacements, vary anywhere between Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 4,000, depending upon the manufacturer and segment to which your car belongs. These servicing costs are applicable for cars ranging from entry-level small hatchbacks to sub-four meter compact SUVs.
Vehicles ranging from compact SUVs and sedans bigger than four meters to midsize sedans and SUVs command the general servicing costs anywhere between Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 8,000. The full-size sedans and SUVs from mass-market car makers do ask for servicing costs ranging between Rs. 8,000 to Rs 12,000. For luxury cars, the servicing costs usually cost upwards Rs. 15,000, depending upon the category and type of engine it runs.
