Hyundai Elantra makes a comeback with a diesel engine in India and the same has been listed on the website as well. The 1.5L oil burner is borrowed from the new-gen Creta and replaces the older 1.6L diesel which was used before. The premium sedan has not been launched yet and we can expect it to be launched after the lockdown.

The 1.5L diesel engine on the Hyundai Elantra churns out the same power output that is 115 bhp at 4,000 rpm with 250 Nm of peak torque from as low as 1,500 rpm. The engine gets mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter unit. The earlier gen 1.6L diesel engine used to produce 126 bhp with 260 Nm of torque.
What's new is that the diesel engine will be reserved for the SX and SX(O) trims. Both the trims are top-rated in terms of features and safety. The SX trim gets projector headlights with LED DRL (Daytime Running Lights), electric sunroof, dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering and gear knob, 8.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as connectivity features and among others.
The top-spec SX(O) trim differentiates itself from SX by getting features like electrically adjustable driver's seat, wireless charger, drive modes, leather upholstery, front ventilated seats, LED headlights, front parking sensors and more.
Safety features on both the trims include six airbags, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, rear disc brakes, auto headlights and more. The SX(O) trim gets additional features like tyre pressure monitoring system and electronic type shift lock.

It is also being said that Hyundai will drop the entry-level trim S which concludes the availability of two trims SX and SX(O) only. Once launched, the Elantra picks its horns with Honda Civic. Toyota Corolla Altis and Skoda Octavia are discontinued.
