Hyundai has just recently pulled the wraps off its new small SUV- Hyundai Exter 2023. Bookings for the same have commenced from today at Rs. 11,000. This comes after the spy shots of the Exter made rounds on the internet without any camouflage. But that was in a parking spot. As the launch inches closer, more images are here where you can check out the Exter plying on roads.

Hyundai Exter On Road
In the images, the compact SUV can be seen running in traffic. Although this is based on the Grand i10 NIOS platform, it has more real estate. It looks bigger and more boxy than the hatch offering. It will directly enter the field to compete with the likes of Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and the Maruti Fronx. The dimensions definitely make an impact with a taller SUV structure.
Although it shares a platform with the Grand i10, this one is an all-new design and comfortably sits in the SUV category. The front bonnet carries a well-defined creased line and an upright stance. It has a split headlamp set-up with H-patterned LED Daytime Running Lamps.
Powertrain And Features
Under the hood, it shares the same engine as the Hyundai Venue, Grand i10 NIOS, and the Aura. Although the power figures are not yet revealed particularly for the EXTER, this 1.2 liter, 4-cylinder petrol engine makes 83 hp power and 113.8 Nm torque in cars that it is currently employed. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. A CNG Exter is also coming along with a petrol engine. Although a diesel option is highly unlikely, a 1.0 turbocharged engine is not. An electric avatar is also one of the possibilities.
On the features front, there is not going to be any dearth. It will be coming in with a large infotainment system, connected car technology, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. More expected features include automatic climate control, a multi-function steering wheel, an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, a wireless phone charger, and keyless entry. Since it shares a lot of things with existing Hyundai cars, the features will most likely be carried too.
VERDICT- Hyundai Exter is getting into a very competitive space. Space that is very unforgiving, and has the Tata Punch at the top. While Hyundai is known to be the king slayer of segment rulers, It will be interesting to see if it can dethrone the Punch.
