Hyundai Exter CNG - Price, Engine, Variants
Variant | Price (ex-showroom) |
S | Rs 8,50,300 |
SX | Rs 9,23,300 |
Exter Knight SX | Rs 9,38,200 |
To compete with the segment-topping rival Tata Punch CNG, the Exter Hy-CNG has been introduced. Hyundai is offering the dual-cylinder technology Exter in three variants - S, SX, and Knight SX. The pricing of these variants is as follows: S (Rs 8,50,300), SX (9,23,300), and Knight SX (Rs 9,38,200). All of these prices are ex-showroom, pan India. Powering the Exter CNG is the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine that is fitted with the bi-fuel CNG technology. This engine generates a peak power output of 69 PS and a peak torque of 95.2 Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency is 27.1 km/kg, whilst the CNG tank capacity is 60L.
The dual-cylinder technology helps in creating a usable boot space similar to the petrol version. Hence, the dual cylinders of CNG are placed underneath the boot, creating space for luggage. The Hy-CNG technology uses an integrated ECU which offers a seamless performance and switch between CNG and petrol fuel. The CNG version of Exter comes equipped with features like a sunroof, LED DRLs, auto climate control, 6 airbags, ESC, hill-hold assist, and TPMS.

Verdict
Hyundai Exter has proven as a successful product for the company. Awarded as the Indian Car of the Year, the Exter offers a spacious cabin with refined engine performance. However, its lack of CNG powertrain was hindering its sales, which is now expected to improve with the addition of Hy-CNG option.
