Jeep is all set to launch their 7-seater SUV, Meridian in the Indian markets on May 19 and ahead of its official launch, several batches of the same have started arriving at the dealerships. The bookings for the same are already open at Rs 50,000.
Powering the Jeep Meridian is the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged BS6 compliant motor that generates as much as 168 bhp of power on tap with a peak torque of 350 Nm. This engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard and also gets an optional 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Jeep mainly targets the buyers of Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster and Skoda Kodiaq. Unlike the T-Fort that gets RWD set up as standard, the Meridian here gets FWD configuration as standard while AWD is an option. It also generates less power and peak torque figures.

Even though the Meridian is based on the Compass, it is now 364 mm longer, 41 mm wider and 42 mm taller. The wheelbase too of the soon to be launched SUV is 158 mm longer than the Compass. For now, the Meridian will be launched with a 7-seat layout only and we expect the 6-seat layout with captain seats for the middle row to be launched at a later stage.
On the inside, most of the patterns and features are the same except for a few. Like the dashboard follows a similar layout as the Compass but now gets an all-new black and brown colour scheme. To differentiate more, Meridian gets 3rd-row seating, however, it is best suited for kids. We have driven the SUV and you can watch our complete review on our YouTube channel.
Feature-wise, it continues with dual-zone climate control, a large panoramic sunroof, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, uConnect, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, cruise control, drive modes and more. The Meridian also gets a powered tailgate which is not found in the Compass.

As of now, the Meridian is available with a sole diesel engine only. On the other hand, Compass gets a 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine too. However, we do expect the carmaker to bring the 7-seater SUV with a petrol motor too. As far as the pricing is concerned then we expect it to be priced between Rs 33.5 lakh to Rs 38 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. We will be covering the launch story as well so watch out for that.
