The Kia Carens was recently introduced in the Indian market with an extremely aggressive starting price of INR 8.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is currently getting a strong response in the market. This new premium MPV takes on the rivals like the Maruti Ertiga, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, etc. With a lot of people showing interest in the car, we did a real-life Kia Carens diesel AT fuel economy test with 6 people on board.
Just like always, the fuel economy test started with refilling the car till auto-cut and resetting the trip-meters to improve the accuracy of the tests. Likewise, the AC was on for the entire duration and we were six people on board, thus mimicking almost similar conditions as a normal family man would use this MPV. One thing that we all noticed at the start was the fact that the Kia Carens does offer an extremely comfortable and spacious cabin while there are enough features for everyone in all three rows.

The Kia Carens diesel AT comes with a 1.5-L diesel engine that churns out 115 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque output. A six-speed torque converter unit comes mated too this engine and did impress us with its fast and smooth shifts. Having said this, this diesel powertrain does boast commendable refinement and smoothness levels while the performance too was adequate for a car of this size.

The same process of filling the car upto the first auto-cut was followed and the car took in 8.68 L of diesel. Simple calculations show that the Kia Carens delivered a genuine fuel economy of 20.76 km/L in real-life conditions with 6 people inside the cabin.
