Kia Carens Scored 3 Star Rating At The Global NCAP Even With 6 Airbags Offered As Standard

Kia Carens is one of the most popular MPVs in the country right now and the Global NCAP results for the same are now out. The Maruti Ertiga and XL6 rival has scored 3 stars at the Global NCAP crash test rating. This is a little bit surprising knowing that Carens gets six airbags as standard across all trims.

Safety features on the Kia Carens include six airbags, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, all-wheel disc brakes, a high-speed alert system, front seat-belt reminder, tyre pressure monitoring system, seatbelt pretensioners and brake assist as standard.

Kia Carens Safety

Even with all these safety features as standard, the Carens scored a mere 3-star rating at the Global NCAP crash test rating. Its rival, Maruti Ertiga too gets a 3-star rating and that comes with fewer safety features than Kia Carens. This has to do a lot with the bodyshell of both the MPVs and Carens bodyshell is rated unstable in a crash at 64 kmph.

Kia Carens scored 9.30 points out of 17 for adult occupant protection. Their report also suggests that the bodyshell is not capable of handling further load and that, the footwell area, as well as the structure of the MPV, are unstable. In the crash test, the driver's chest injury was rated marginal safe while head and neck injuries were marked as good.

Kia Carens Safety

In terms of child occupancy safety, Carens scored 30.99 points out of 49 as it gets ISOFIX child seat mounts. The officials at the Global NCAP marked their concern over the safety protocols Kia is following for the Indian market. They also said that Kia is a globally renowned brand that scores well in the international markets while the same cannot be said for the Indian market.
