Kia Sonet vs Hyundai Venue: Engine and Transmission
Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue share their platforms and engines. But, there is a big change in the powertrain of the Sonet. Both these compact-SUVs get a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that churns out 83 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque. It comes mated only to a 5-speed manual gearbox in both these cars. Then we have a 1.5-litre diesel engine that delivers 100 PS of power and 240 Nm of torque. The oil-burner of the Hyundai Venue comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox only.
However, the Sonet gets a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. The manual variants will develop identical power and torque figures as the Venue but the AT variant will belt out 115 PS (+15 PS) of power and 250 Nm (+10 Nm) of peak torque. Both these SUVs also get a powerful 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This turbocharged petrol motor churns out 120 PS of power and 171 Nm of torque. The Venue comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission) while the Sonet gets a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT only.
