Legendary sports bike Bajaj Pulsar 220F has neared its production end. At end of an era, we remember the radical changes it brought to the Indian market.
Launched back in the year 2007, Bajaj Pulsar 220F semi-faired sports bike was the wet dream of every youngster in India. A legendary motorcycle that did not just change the fate of Bajaj but also the Indian entry-level sports bike market; has now been discontinued.
Bajaj has finally decided to pull the plug out for the Pulsar 220 after a long stint of 15 years. The long production time did ensure that the Pulsar brand name was recognized globally. As they say, everything has an end to it; Bajaj has replaced the Pulsar 220F with the new Pulsar F250 which is a more refined and more tech-laden product overall.

Bajaj had launched the 220F with a tagline of 'World's Favorite India'; which indeed was true to an extent with the kind of power and cost ratio is provided. The stacked headlight design with feature upgrades like the projector headlamp was surely new to India back in 2007. But, over a period of time, the 220F had started falling back in terms of updates. Although, Bajaj did introduce new graphics and colours to keep the ship sailing it did not help much in sales. The consistent drop in sales was finally countered by the new series of Pulsar F250 bikes.
Talking about the specs of 220F, Bajaj has equipped it with a revolutionary 220cc, oil-cooled, SOHC engine which produces peak power of 20.4 hp and peak torque of 18.55 mm. A 5-speed gearbox tuned in perfectly for Indian road conditions made sure the users loved the bike. Also, the 160 kg of kerb weight made the bike more flickable in congested traffic conditions.
The design of Pulsar 220F raised eyebrows at the time of launch. Carrying the iconic Pulsar badge on the signature fuel tank and the twin stripe of LED tail-lights made sure that the 220F became a head-turner on the Indian roads. Not just in the domestic market, but, the 220F sold in decent numbers internationally as well.
Rivals for Pulsar 220F included iconic products such as the old Hero KarizmaR as well as the new products such as TVS Apache RTR, Yamaha FZ, Suzuki Gixxer, and more. To shunt the competition off, Bajaj introduced new products in the market such as the Pulsar N250. Before being discontinued Bajaj Pulsar 220F was sold at a price tag of Rs 1,33,907 ex-showroom pan India.
