The Bolero Neo's safety performance has been disappointing, and there are several reasons for this. According to the Global NCAP test report, there are significant issues with the car's front structure, particularly in the footwell area, which is concerning for occupant safety in the event of a crash. The protection offered to the driver's chest and feet is also not satisfactory, despite the presence of two airbags as standard.

One of the most concerning aspects is the noticeable difference in protection levels between front and side impacts. The car lacks side head protection, and it doesn't have Seat Belt Reminder (SBR) systems as required. These shortcomings led to an overall adult safety rating of just one star.

When it comes to child safety, the Bolero Neo also falls short. It lacks three-point seat belts in all seating positions and doesn't include a passenger airbag disconnection switch. Moreover, the child restraint system (CRS) failed in the tests. Adding to the concerns, the face-to-face seating structure in the third row didn't meet the expectations of the Global NCAP. All these factors combined have contributed to the Bolero Neo's poor safety rating.

The Bolero Neo comes in four variants: N4, N8, N10, and N10 (O), priced between Rs 9.89 lakh and Rs 12.15 lakh. Safety features include Engine Immobilizer, Seat belt audio reminder for both driver and co-driver, Speed alert audio warning, Driver and passenger airbags, Flip key, Front disc brakes, Rear drum brakes, ABS with EBD, Corner braking control, Reverse parking assist, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats in the second row.

However, it lacks some advanced safety features like ESC, Pedestrian protection, AEB Pedestrian, AEB City, AEB Inter-Urban, Speed Assist System, and Lane Assist system, as revealed by the Global NCAP test.

It competes with cars like the Maruti Fronx, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, and others.

Verdict

The Mahindra Bolero Neo's one-star safety rating from Global NCAP is deeply disappointing. Its inadequate safety highlight significant safety concerns. Mahindra's decision to continue using side-facing benches further reduces the car's safety standards, failing to meet the expectations set by Global NCAP.
