Everyone had big hopes for the all-new Thar and when it got launched, the response flourished through the roof. With over 15,000 bookings in place within 9 days, Mahindra really had to plan things. As they may have gauged the response before, Mahindra announced the auction for the Thar #1 and sold that for 1.11 crore. The auctioned mone will be donated for the welfare of the society in the days of COVID. Just recently, Mahindra delivered the Thar #1 to Aakash Minda in New Delhi.
The Mahindra Thar #1 was delivered by Mr Satinder Bajwa - Senior Vice President, Sales and Customer Care, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. Mahindra has finally started delivering the Thar to the customers and the first one is Aakash Minda. The Thar #1 will come with "#1" badges all across and also owner's embossing on the inside. As per Mahindra, over 5,500 bidders participated in the auction from 500 locations across the length and breadth of India.

Mr Minda opted for the fully loaded Thar LX Petrol Automatic Convertible top Mystic Copper shade. On the occasion of delivery, Mr Aakash Minda said "I am truly excited to own this much-coveted Thar #1 and contribute to a relevant cause. I would like to thank Mahindra for all the personalised touches in my Thar #1 and making it even more special. Afterall owning the Thar #1 is not just about possession but an emotion that makes it special."

The winning bidder had the option to choose from three non-profit organisations, to donate the proceeds of the auction, and he opted for the Swades Foundation, with Mahindra matching the winning bid to bring the total donation amount to Rs. 2.22 crore. Talking about the Thar #1, it has the 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine which produces 150bhp and 320 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
