Mahindra Thar 5 Door: ADAS Now Available
Recent spy shots of the Mahindra Thar 5-door revealed a telltale sign in the cabin: a housing behind the rearview mirror that suggests a potential camera setup for ADAS features. If Mahindra equips the Thar 5-door with ADAS, features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and driver drowsiness detection are all possibilities.
The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5 door hints at a compelling blend of off-road capability and modern niceties. Safety is expected to be bolstered with features like six airbags potentially strengthened by the addition of front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera for enhanced maneuverability in tight spaces. All-disc brakes are also likely to be part of the package.
Glimpses of the Thar 5-door's interior, revealed through spy shots, hint at a significant upgrade in comfort and convenience. A large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system could be similar to the one seen in the updated XUV400, offering a user-friendly interface for entertainment and connectivity on the go. A fully digital instrument cluster might replace traditional gauges, dual-zone climate control, a rear center armrest, and a sunroof would add further touches of premiumness to the cabin.
Powertrain
The Thar 5 Door will borrow the 2.2L diesel (130hp, 300Nm) and 2.0L petrol (150hp, 300Nm) engines from the 3-door Thar, with possible tweaks for performance and efficiency. Both engines get 6-speed manual and automatic options. While it will be available in RWD and 4WD, the 4WD launches first to target off-road enthusiasts.
While its debut is slated for August 15, 2024 and a launch expected towards Q4 of 2024, it will lock horns with the likes of the upcoming Gurkha 5-door and the current Maruti Jimny in the segment.
Verdict
The highly anticipated Mahindra Thar 5-door inches closer to its official launch. Extensive spy shots have provided valuable insights into its design and features. Meanwhile, this long-awaited SUV caters to a new breed of adventure seeker: families who crave off-road thrills without sacrificing comfort or practicality.
