Mahindra Thar 5-Door Alloy Wheels Fitted On 3-Door Thar: Details
It appears that Delhi's famous car accessory market is at it again. Time and again, the aftermarket of Delhi has been known to source parts like lights and alloy wheels, of the popular cars that have not launched. A similar incident has surfaced online, where a car accessory shop claims to have fitted the OEM alloys of the 5-door model on the current 3-door Thar. A few weeks ago, these OEM alloys were also seen on sale in a different shop.
Now this comes as a complete surprise to the audience waiting for the launch of the new Thar model. Many are waiting for the bookings to commence, whilst the rest are eagerly waiting for the launch date i.e. 15 August. The OEM parts being sold in the aftermarket are not new. The vendors that make the official OEM parts, tend to sell the design among other competitors. Additionally, the vendors that have not been successful in winning an OEM contract, tend to sell these parts in the aftermarket.
Speaking of the alloy wheels, these are based on an 18-inch 5-spoke design that has a dual-tone colour scheme. Meshed with aluminium and silver contrasts, these alloy wheels look like an evolved version of the 3-door model. However, we assume that these alloy wheels belong to mid-level trims, as the top-spec test car has been earlier spotted with different design wheels.
The Thar 5-door model will launch next month, and it can possibly be named 'Armada'. Its design will be identical to the current model, with revised cosmetics like new LED headlights, different alloys, and new bumpers. The engine options on the 5-door model will be similar to the current Thar. However, the interiors will get an added second-row, panoramic sunroof, digital console, and other luxury features. It could be priced between Rs 16-22 lakh when launched.

Verdict
Thar has been a successful product for Mahindra since its new-gen launch. The sales volume of 3-door model are applausing for Mahindra. With the debut of 5-door model, this volume will increase the bandwidth of the brand. It is a capable 4X4 SUV but the lack of second-row makes it impractical for a lot of capable buyers. These buyers will now opt for the 5-door model, as expected post launch.
