The idea for this Mahindra Thar 5 door was to offer more practicality than the current 3-door version. This meant more space, and easily accessible second-row seating that ultimately offers a more family-friendly practicality keeping its off-road prowess intact. With the rear legroom visible in these images, the second row spacing looks quite spacious. Not only this, you can notice the rear AC vents, that are big enough for effective air throw to cool the second half of the cabin.

Apart from this, you can clearly see the new bigger 10.25-inch infotainment display that takes up the charge. On top of this, you will get features like a fully digital instrument cluster, a single-pane sunroof, Lvl-2 ADAS, a new beefier steering wheel shared with the Scorpio N, rain-sensing wipers, and more. In closing, the Ther 5 door will be a richer affair in terms of convenience features when compared to the current Thar model.

Powertrain Options

The upcoming 5-door Thar will feature a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine, similar to the current 3-door Thar RWD model. This diesel variant is expected to be the base engine option. Higher trims are likely to come with more powerful options: a 175hp, 2.2-liter diesel, and a 203hp, 2.0-liter turbo-petrol, similar to those found in the Scorpio N. The SUV is anticipated to offer both 4WD and 2WD configurations, with manual and automatic transmission choices.

While the expected pricing is around Rs. 15 lakhs ex-showroom, it will face off directly against the recently launched Force Gurkha 5 door and the smaller-sized Maruti Jimny in the adventure vehicle segment.

However, you might be having some queries regarding the RWD variants with the entry level 1.5L diesel mill. Check out our review where we tested the 3 door variant for its off-road prowess.

Verdict

The Thar 5 door is always under a lot of prying cameras waiting for the next big reveal. And why not, this iteration is improving upon the woes of the 3-doored version. While it will take a hit in certain areas like the turning radius and bulkier weight, it remains to be seen how it handles the terrain when it ventures off the road. Until then, stay tuned here for all the latest update.
