Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Mid-Spec Trim In Action
Mahindra Thar 5 Door test mules are something we are now quite familiar with. Already a known visitor to the prying cameras, this time around we have the mid-spec variant rolling on the city streets. The night time shots indicate at a possible headlamps testing phase along with other additions. However, we have already spotted the base variant as well as the topline trim in earlier spy shots. The combination of alloy wheels with a halogen lamp gives away its mid-tier nature.
While the side profile is a stretched-out 3-door Thar, it gets the most requested element from family-oriented enthusiasts. The 2 extra doors for the second-row access. Mahindra's goal is to address the limitations of the 3-door variant, particularly its less accommodating second-row seating, making it more suitable for families.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door Mid Variant: Interior And Features
Although not entirely clear, observations suggest that this mid-spec test model was equipped with analog dials featuring a multi-information display similar to the existing Thar 3-door, rather than the fully digital drivers display found in the top-end version. Additionally, it is speculated that it may feature a smaller infotainment screen, possibly the 8-inch unit seen in the Scorpio N, instead of the 10.25-inch unit present in the top model. Other features that the middle variant might lack include a sunroof, push-button start, and cruise control. However, it will be better equipped in terms of safety with standard features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and more.
Powertrain
Mahindra Thar 5 Door is poised to feature a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine, resembling the current 3-door Thar RWD model. This 1.5-liter diesel option is expected to serve as the base-level engine choice across the lineup. In its current setup within the Thar 3-door model, this engine generates 117hp and 300Nm of torque. However, we expect these figures to be slightly tweaked for this bigger sibling. Higher trim levels are expected to offer the more potent 175hp, 2.2-liter diesel, and 203hp, 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engines, similar to those found in the Scorpio N.
While it is set for debut in August 2024, dealerships across the country are accepting bookings unofficially. However, if you are wondering how the entry-level 1.5-litre engine performs, check out our in-depth review of the same.
