5-Door Mahindra Thar Pushed To 2024
Since Jimny entered this space with a 5-door version, it somehow pinched the pain points of Thar. While Thar enjoys long queues of customers, it is still left out by family-oriented enthusiasts. For those who wanted the best of both worlds sought refuge in a more practical Maruti Jimny 5-door, bookings of which already crossed the 30,000 mark, even before its launch, which is set for June 7, 2023.
A counter to this was the extra door Thar. But now, ending the speculations, it is confirmed that 2023 is not the year of its inception. In fact, there is no new Mahindra launch planned in 2023 anymore. What's good about this news is that now you can decide if you want to wait or not for this one.
The 5-door Thars launch was revealed at the companys recent press meeting for Q4 and FY23 results. Executive Director (Auto & Farm Sectors) of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Mr. Rajesh Jejurikar, confirmed that the 5-door Thar will not be launched in 2023.

Possible Reasons
At this point, where Jimny seems to be taking the lead, the delay in 5-door Thar can be attributed to an already long pending list of deliveries of Scorpio N, Mahindra XUV700, and more, where the waiting period has already crossed 18 months in some places. Meanwhile, Thar is already catering to a backlog of up to 17 months. This could be a possible reason for the launch being pushed to sometime in 2024.
What To Expect
While the looks and feel will be typical of Thar, it will be based on the Scorpio N platform. Not only will it be a more family-oriented proposition, but also a more comfortable driving experience. Coming to the powertrain, it is likely to continue with the same powertrain options. However, the retuning of the engine can be expected to accommodate a bigger form factor and platform needs.
Currently, it gets a 2.2-liter diesel engine that churns out 130 PS power with 300 Nm of peak torque while the 1.5-lire unit produces 118 PS power. On the other hand, the 2.0-liter petrol puts out figures of 150 PS and 300 Nm of torque.
VERDICT- Thar 5-door is coming in 2024 which gives ample time to the company to clear the order booklist of existing cars. This official statement will also make it easy for buyers who were waiting for its launch. You can now make the decision to either wait or to go for some other alternative (*cough*Jimny 5-door*cough*) of the 5-door Thar.
