- Mahindra will launch the Thar 5-Door in India this year.
- The SUV will be offered with the RWD option along with the regular 4X4 models.
- Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engine, it will rival Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5 door and the upcoming Force Gurkha 5 door.
Mahindra & Mahindra made its lifestyle SUV accessible to a wider range of thrill-seekers by launching the Thar RWD in India on 9th January. Priced in the range of Rs. 9.99 lakh to Rs. 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the road-focused guise of the SUV is targeted at buyers who hardly cross the boundaries of the urban jungles. Now in a very interesting development, it is confirmed that the highly anticipated upcoming Thar 5-door will also get this RWD configuration in addition to the regular 4X4 models. Here is everything you need to know about the Mahindra Thar 5-door RWD.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door RWD: What We Know?
As we all know that Mahindra will launch the Thar 5 Door in 2023 and we have already come across several spy images doing rounds on the internet. Earlier, it was only known that like the current 3-door Thar, the 5-door version too will get only a 4X4 drivetrain configuration. Now as the Thar RWD is a reality, it has been confirmed that the Indian SUV maker will also introduce the RWD version in the Thar 5-Door as well. This Thar 5-Door RWD will sit alongside the vehicle's regular 4X4 model which is a pedigree of the Thar nameplate.
Unlike the recently launched Thar RWD which is powered by a 1.5 litre D117 CDRe diesel engine, the Mahindra Thar 5-Door RWD will draw power from the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit which does duties in the SUV's 4X4 models. The 5-door RWD diesel model will also get the 6-speed automatic option which has been given a miss in the current vehicle. Talking about the petrol powertrain, the same 2.0-litre mStallion engine will continue to power both the Thar 5-door RWD and 4X4 models. However, the power output figures of the diesel, as well as petrol engines, will be considerably higher as compared to the current model, all thanks to the added weight and increased dimensions.
