- Thar 4x2 RWD will be launched soon. Dealer dispatch started
- Uses a smaller 1500cc turbo diesel & same older larger turbo petrol
- Prices expected to come down by about Rs 1.5 lakh
Mahindra is just days away from announcing prices for the new 'affordable' Thar RWD / 4x2 model. Before that happens, here are some exclusive images of the SUV in the special Blazing Bronze (Golden) shade that is currently only reserved for the XUV300. We are sure this is a deliberate step to make this lifestyle vehicle more appealing to a wider audience. Big shout out to Arbaaz Ahmed for sending us the images and the video!
To make this lifestyle vehicle more accessible to a wider audience at a lower price point, Mahindra decided to remove the 4x4 hardware and hence will offer the SUV at a cheaper ex-showroom cost. Further, the smaller diesel engine and the sub 4 meter length helps to gain small car tax benefits. These two important factors will help drop the prices by about Rs 1.5 lakh.
The Thar 4x2 will retain the bigger petrol engine that is good for 150 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. Both the engines are expected to come with a manual gearbox only - this may happen to keep prices in check. The smaller diesel unit will also be more frugal, thereby giving a real world economy of 13-15 kmpl in mixed driving conditions.
Mahindra will not be participating in the upcoming Auto Expo. This event is where Maruti will launch the made-for-India 5-door Jimny. The new Thar 4x2 will also aim to spoil Maruti's party! Will that happen? Watch this space for more! In the meantime, enjoy these pictures below...
