Mahindra is gearing up for the unveiling of the new 2022 Scorpio on its 20th Anniversary in June and the good news is, that the carmaker will bring in 4WD as an option with the petrol engine too. Earlier, the rumours carried that the oil burner will only be equipped with the four-wheel-drive set-up, however, the 2.0L mStallion petrol motor will too get it.
This four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor was first seen in the Thar and then followed by XUV700. We believe the power and torque figures to be upwards of 150 PS and 320 Nm. Unlike the diesel motor that will be available with two tunes, the petrol will only get reserved to a single tune for all variants.
Sharing inputs about the diesel motor then the base variants of the 2022 Scorpio are expected to see a power figure of 130 PS while the higher variants will get 155 PS under the hood. The latter is the same power figure as found in the base variants of the XUV700. Both the petrol and diesel motor will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard along with an optional 6-speed torque converter gearbox as an option. We expect the 4WD to be offered with the top of the line variants only.

Safety equipment too on the new Scorpio will rise as it will get multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, a high-speed alert system, rear parking sensors, front seat belt reminder, reverse camera and more.
