Mercedes-Benz G 400d - Details

So, the latest iteration of the G-Class is the diesel one. The G 400d is introduced in mainly two variants. One of the variants is 'India Specific' as per the company and it is called 'Adventure Edition'. The second version is a more sporty yet rugged 'AMG Line'. Both of these models are equipped with the same 3.0-lt turbo-diesel engine. Codenamed 'OM656', this engine is the most powerful diesel engine ever made by Mercedes. It generates a peak power of 325bhp & a peak torque of 700Nm. The most interesting bit is the water-wading capacity of the new G 400d; which stands at 700 mm. It also gets a new G Mode which adapts the steering wheel, damping, and acceleration inputs.

Speaking of the features, it gets an exclusive Nappa leather interior package. A sound system by Burmester and aluminium-finished AC vents make the interiors richer. However, the design details of both variants are different. The Adventure Edition is equipped with a Roof Rack, Rear removable ladder, 18-inch alloy wheels with silver finish, a 'Profession' exterior package with spare wheel holder, 4 exclusive colours, & Mercedes logo projector on the ORVMs.

The AMG Line variant gets equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels, a Burmester Sound system, a sliding sunroof, a widescreen cockpit, & 64 colours of ambient lighting. The G 400d Adventure Edition is configured for the Indian market with 4 exclusive colours: G Manufaktur desert sand non-metallic | G Manufaktur vintage blue non-metallic G Manufaktur travertine beige metallic | G Manufaktur south seas blue metallic

Verdict

The new G-Class diesel variants are aimed at buyers looking for a luxurious yet adventure-rich SUV. The diesel power & torque enriches the practicality of the uber-popular G-Wagen in India. Its main rival is the Land Rover Defender.
