Mahindra Thar is a cool-looking compact-SUV with its soft-top roof, boxy design, and hulking road presence. The off-road enthusiasts make it look even more attractive and eye-catchy by heavily modifying it. The Thar is a mod-friendly SUV and it looks too good to be true with the mod-job accessories. Mahindra even has an in-house car customization unit and they keep doing all sorts of crazy modifications on their SUVs. Mahindra Thar Daybreak Edition and Mahindra Thar Wanderlust Edition (seen below) are two such crazy examples.
Here we have one massively modified Mahindra Thar which was used to carry VIPs and media personnel during an event. This is a 2019 Mahindra Thar customized by Raj Kapoor of Performance Auto. It was specially designed and developed for Jawa Motorcycles Official Ride Events. The SUV was built for a unique purpose unit for the Punjab Ride and was specially curated ride specific mascot vehicle for Jawa motorcycles. It took around a month duration to completely modify this special Thar.
Performance Auto built two special Mahindra Thars for Jawa Motorcycles Ride Events. The first one was built for the Ladakh ride, hence it was a long-distance touring vehicle, while this one was an open-top SUV styled on the legendary Punjabi open-top Jeep. The main idea and philosophy behind the composition of these modified off-roaders were to build each vehicle with certain riding-terrain and region-specific inputs integrated into the design.
This Mahindra Thar was customized with a lot of after-market fitments and accessories and this modified version does look more macho than before. Talking about the mods, it has got a 2.5-inch body-lift, the vertical silhouette of the SUV has been trimmed and it gets refurbished A and B pillars with industrial design roll-cage integrated into B-pillar. The off-roader also gets new low-height doors with rock-sliders and footrests for effortless ingress and egress.
Some other new fitments include foldable windscreen panel, offset steel rims with updated all-terrain tires, front and rear offroad bumpers, aluminium two-inch spacers to enhance rear-track width, dedicated chassis anchored spare wheel mount system with rear-door sync, luggage racks over the rear wheel wells, spades with mounts on each side, sand channels with mounts, and two-hooks & D-shackles integrated into the bumpers.
This modified Mahindra Thar has got some nip and tuck in the interior too. It gets a retro dashboard with wood inserts, dual-tone beige upholstery, upgraded front seats with electric adjustability, front-facing rear seats, waterproof Bluetooth speaker mounted under the rear seats, with fine leather and wood detailing adding to its premium appeal.

The Modified Mahindra Thar is powered by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine option that churns out 105 bhp of power at 3800 RPM and 247 Nm of torque between 1800-200 RPM. The engine is coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission and it gets a host of mechanicals to show its off-road prowess which includes a 4-wheel drive system with low-range gearbox and mechanical differential lock. The Thar is one of the most capable SUVs in its class and its unmistakable styling and unmatched capability ensure the success of many daring road journeys, winning the hearts of all travellers and adventurers.
