There has been no official announcement by Kia about the next-gen Kia Seltos, but the scoops have started coming in. As per recent reports from online media sources, Kia is reportedly preparing to launch the next-generation Seltos SUV, anticipated to debut next year with a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. Sources indicate that the hybrid variant of the Kia Seltos might adopt a powertrain similar to Hyundai's Kona Hybrid SUV.

Production of the new-generation Seltos is slated to commence in August 2025, with availability expected in domestic showrooms by the end of the following year. Kia is reportedly considering a 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain for the upcoming Seltos, featuring an optional electronic all-wheel drive system with an electric motor powering the rear wheels. Similar to the setup in the Kona Hybrid, this configuration pairs a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine with a 32 kW electric motor, delivering combined outputs of 140 BHP and 265 Nm of torque.

The hybrid engine will be coupled with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Kia's strategy includes offering the Seltos Hybrid alongside traditional ICE-only models, aligning with plans to introduce nine hybrid models by 2028 amidst fluctuating demand for pure electric vehicles.

2023 KIA Seltos Facelift

The KIA Seltos offers a modern suite of features with a highlight being the panoramic dual display system, combining a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with a digital instrument console of the same size, enhancing the cabin's modern appeal. The voice control system now supports multiple languages, while the center console integrates physical controls for the infotainment and air conditioning systems. Other additions include dual-zone climate control, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, leatherette seats, and advanced ADAS technology among many others.

Kia Seltos: Current Powertrain Options

The Kia Seltos lineup currently includes three engine options. There's a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 113 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine delivers 114 bhp and 144 Nm of torque. For more power, there's also a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine generating 158 bhp and 253 Nm of torque.

Verdict

The next-gen Kia Seltos, if introduced in petrol hybrid will make it one of the top choices in the segment. While it woud enter into the buyers list of the Maruti Grand Virata, it woud also impact the rival diesel SUVs. For those in regions where 10 year old diesel vehicles are prohibited, this petrol hybrid variants will extend its life up to 15 years as the validity for petrol vehicles remain higher.
