Skoda is on a roll with the recently launched Kushaq and now, Zac Hollis (Brand Director, Skoda India) has confirmed that they will launch a mid-size sedan placed above the Rapid by year-end. Here are some things that you might like about the upcoming Skoda sedan!
This sedan will be based on the newer MQB AO IN platform that is seen on the Kushaq. This means an increased cabin space along with lowered price as 95% of the localisation will be based in the country. Similarly, this sedan will be longer (4480 mm), wider (+50mm) and will have a class-leading wheelbase of 2651 mm. As per the reports, the boot space will be as huge as 520 litres.

Feature-wise, this new sedan will carry a plethora of the latest technology equipment and will come with a larger touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other bits like cruise control, multi-function steering wheel, voice command, wireless charging, digital instrument cluster may also be on offer. An electric sunroof should be there when the sedan is launched later this year.
Mechanically, the sedan will house two engine options - a 1.0L TSI and a more powerful 1.5L TSI. The former will generate as much as 115 PS with 178 Nm of peak torque while the latter will come with 150 PS on tap with 250 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines will get mated to a 6-speed manual stick shift and for the automatic, the 1.0L TSI will be equipped with a 6-speed torque converter whereas the 1.5L TSI will get a 7-speed DSG.

As of now, there is no name for the upcoming Skoda sedan but we do know it will sit higher than the Rapid. The deliveries for the same will start from early next year and we expect the price to stick between Rs 9.90 lakh to Rs 14.99 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. We expect that Skoda will keep running the Rapid sedan in production to procure more sales.
