Renault Duster Based Bigster Spied Overseas: Your 7-Seater Duster!

The upcoming Bigster 7-seater SUV, based on the Renault Duster platform, has been spotted during testing, offering fresh insights into its exterior and interior design. Marketed initially as the Dacia Bigster, a Renault-branded variant is slated to follow. Additionally, the SUV will be available in a 5-seater configuration with increased boot space, although limited to specific markets. Meanwhile, the new spy shots reveal some key details about what it is going to be like on the inside.

Built on the CMF-B platform shared with the Duster, the Bigster SUV is set to be approximately 300mm longer than its smaller counterpart, measuring around 4.6 meters in length, as revealed in recent spy shots. This extension accommodates an elongated wheelbase and larger rear doors, enhancing both cabin roominess and cargo capacity compared to the Duster model. This, as a result, will be suitable to accommodate the third row, which, however, is expected to eat some room from the second row.

Recent photographs of its interior unveil similarities between the Bigster's dashboard and that of the Duster, showcasing a multi-function steering wheel accented with silver, electronic seat adjustment controls, and a prominently angled infotainment screen oriented towards the driver's position. While maintaining design continuity with the Duster, the Bigster is anticipated to incorporate additional features to justify its positioning as a premium 7-seater SUV. Although its launch in India is slated for a later date, the model depicted in these images is the one that is being prepped for introduction in the European market. Since there are mostly a few deviations in the Indian and International models, it is quite early to say what the Indian version could offer.

Renault has not yet officially disclosed the powertrain lineup for the Bigster; however, industry expectations suggest it will draw from the engine options available in its smaller sibling, the Duster. These options include a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol hybrid, a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol with a 48V starter motor, and a 1.0-liter petrol-LPG variant offered in select markets. Similar to the Duster, the Bigster is anticipated to offer both front-wheel drive as standard and an optional all-wheel drive configuration.

While the launch is set for mid-2025, it will go head-to-head against the likes of MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700, and others.

Verdict

Renault is back on track to revive its SUV arm with the launched planned in 2025. While the Duster once ruled the Indian roads, its exit left an ever-echoing  demand for its return. With the opening up of markets to the bigger SUVs and the spending patterns, the return of Duster will surely create a stir in the segemnt.
