Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 - Details
The first thing known about the Scrambler is that it'll be based on the Interceptor 650. The chassis of the Interceptor will be tailored for the scrambler stance. The spy images show that the bike has an upright riding position. Also, it has a wide and upright handlebar with touring mirrors and levers taken from the Super Meteor 650. Another noticeable change is the use of all-terrain tyres with spoke rims. We guess that these will not be tubeless. The test bike seen here also has a LED headlight similar to the upcoming Himalayan 450.
While the instrument pod is not visible, we can anticipate it to be similar to the Super Meteor. On the hardware front, the front suspension is a USD unit while the rear still uses the regular gas-charged shockers. Also, the overall length of it looks less than the Interceptor. It'll continue using the same 648cc parallel-twin engine as the rest of the siblings but its gear ratios will be re-tuned to match the stance and weight of the bike. Meanwhile, the mechanicals are painted in black shade but the unique two-in-one exhaust is still visible. We spied on this a few months back and also recorded its sound. Listen to this new exhaust sound below.
Verdict
The Scrambler 650 will be positioned just above the Interceptor once it debuts globally. The bike seen here indicates that RE is reaching the production-stage soon. However, the next big launch is the Himalayan 450 & the Classic 650 which are destined to come by the end of 2023. Hence, we can expect RE to launch the Scrambler 650 sometime by mid-2024. Its pricing will be a tad bit higher than the Interceptor.
