Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 - What To Expect?
As visible in the spy shots, the Scrambler 650 looks almost production-ready. It will be a proper scrambler in terms of design as well as functionality. A glimpse at it gives an idea that the rider position will be sort of relaxed but the footpegs for the rider are a bit rear-set. Also, the chassis and platform shall be shared with the Interceptor itself. In fact, a lot of the components including the fuel tank look similar to the Interceptor. From the photos, we can notice that it'll get a raised upright handlebar, a new switchgear, an LED headlight & LED taillight similar to the Super Meteor 650.
However, there are going to be some considerable changes to its design. For example, it'll get a short rear design, block-pattern tyres, blacked-out engine components, & spoke rims. But, the most interesting detail revealed through these photos is the speedometer console. It is a fully digital one as we saw on the Himalayan 450 ADV test bikes. Hence, RE is planning to debut this new console on its whole lineup in the coming future. With that said, the 648cc parallel-twin engine shall remain unchanged but the ECU might be remapped for dimensional & weight changes. Also, it'll be the first 650cc RE which will have a two-in-one exhaust system.
Verdict
The RE Scrambler 650 looks production-ready through the new spy shots. But, RE is also known for testing its products for long. We anticipate that the Scrambler won't debut globally until the mid of 2024. When launched in India, it is expected to be positioned above the Interceptor. Hence, the estimated pricing of it shall remain upwards of Rs 3.25 lakh.
