Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 - A better alternate to the Interceptor?
As its name suggests, the Scrambler will be a typical combination of a road bike and a trail-riding machine. Hence, despite of being based on the Interceptor 650, it'll get major changes. For example, the chassis will be shortened for a short wheelbase so that the agility can be increased. Also, there is going to be a new two-in-one exhaust which will help in enhanced agility. Meanwhile, elements like the headlight, fuel tank, side panels, etc., will be similar to the Interceptor. One new visible feature on the spied test mule is the round fully digital instrument console. This is the same unit that was spied on the Himalayan 450 test bike some time ago. Hence, the Scrambler will also get it as expected.
Another visible change is the rear profile which will feature a new set of taillights and indicators. These will be the same as the Hunter 350 but with an LED setup. Also, as it'll focus on soft off-road capabilities, the test bike seen here has MRF block pattern tyers fitted. Meanwhile, the engine shall remain unchanged as it'll be similar to the rest of the 650cc lineup. This 648cc parallel twin engine shall be re-tuned for better tractability and performance. Although, the powertrain components will be blacked out on it for aesthetic purposes. Meanwhile, the comfortable tan brown touring seat will be offered as standard (anticipated by us).
Verdict
Bigger question is when will it launch? We guess that RE has a couple of launches on its hands before it'll introduce the Scrambler 650. After the Himalayan 450, the Classic 650, & the Bullet 350 are lined up. Hence, the Scrambler might take some time and the possibility suggests to us that it'll debut by early 2024. RE is expected to position it a bit above the Interceptor hence its pricing will also be above Rs 3.20 lakh.
