From the table above, well, the Skoda Octavia surely excels with its powerful 2.0L turbocharged petrol unit when compared with the naturally aspirated unit of the Elantra. The Skoda has an advantage with 188 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque and a 7-speed DSG over the 6-speed manual or the optional 6-speed torque converter unit present in the Elantra.
However, the Elantra has one advantage over the Octavia and that is the presence of an oil burner. Even with the marginal price difference in petrol and diesel prices, the latter turns out to be a fuel-efficient one if the car has high running. The Elantra comes with a 1.5L diesel making 113 bhp with 250 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter are observed in the same. The ARAI figures for the diesel sticks to 17.32 kmpl.
