Skoda Rapid is one of the most fun to drive sedans in the country, however, you cannot buy one now. The Czech carmaker has now delisted Rapid from their website and it is safe to say that the sedan is now discontinued ahead of the Skoda Slavia launch.
Mechanically, Skoda Rapid was powered with a 1.0L TSI motor. This engine generates as much as 114 bhp of power on tap with a peak torque of 175 Nm. A 6-speed manual transmission comes as standard fitment and for the automatic, there's a 6-speed torque converter unit. This 1.0L TSI motor will be seen on the upcoming Slavia as well but with 178 Nm of peak torque.
Sharing the details on the new mid-size sedan from Skoda then it will take on the likes of Honda City fifth-gen, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. This is the third product from the Skoda-VW group to be based on MQB AO IN platform and gets a wheelbase of 2,651 mm which is the longest in the segment. A successor to the Rapid, it will host loads of features and aims to be better in every aspect.
Features of the Skoda Slavia include a larger 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a two-spoke multi-function steering wheel, ventilated front seats, fully digital instrument console, cruise control and others.
Safety equipment on the Skoda Slavia includes six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with EBD, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold assist, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, high-speed alert system, front seat belt reminder, ISOFIX child seat mounts and more.
Mechanically, Skoda Slavia gets a 1.0L TSI motor and a more powerful 1.5L TSI unit. The latter generates as much as 148 bhp with a peak torque of 250 Nm. This one gets a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and an optional 7-speed DSG. The 1.0L petrol motor will be launched on February 28 while the 1.5L will be launched on March 3.
