Tata Altroz Tubro Petrol Production to Start Post Lockdown; India Launch?

We all had only one complaint with the Altroz, Why? Why there is no turbo petrol motor? The diesel engine of the Altroz is on par and offers brilliant driveability. But our words were different for the 1.2-litre petrol which was not up to a certain standard for a car which looks so astounding. Tata Motors mentioned that they are working on a turbo petrol engine for the Altroz and also an in-house developed dual-clutch transmission. Since then, we are just waiting to drive the turbo petrol Altroz.

In recent news, sources tell that Tata Motors will start the production of the Altroz turbo petrol just after the lockdown lifts off. It means we can see the more powerful Altroz rolling to the showrooms very soon. The heart of the matter will be a detuned version of the Nexon's 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine. Don't get upset with the 'detuned' word as it will still produce 99 Hp and 141 Nm of torque which is just 20 Hp short to the Nexon.

However, we aren't sure about the dual-clutch automatic box as Tata hasn't announced anything regarding that. The engine will be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and if everything goes in line as planned, we may also see a smooth in-house developed DCT plonked in the Altroz at the launch itself.

The Tata Altroz gets two engine option at this point of time - 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. Both the engines come with 5-speed manual gearbox and auto will be launched at a later date. This very point is one of the disadvantages the Altroz carries under its belly. Most of the buyers these days, particularly in this segment, wants the benefits of a smooth and efficient automatic transmission which the Altroz lacks. The Altroz is nearly a sorted car with flamboyant looks, capable and effortless diesel engine, great build quality and value for money propositions. All it needs is a peppy petrol engine (which is on its way) and a smooth and reliable automatic transmission.
