Tata Motors ventured into the Premium Hatchback segment of India with the launch of the Tata Altroz early this year. Upon launch, the Altroz got naturally-aspirated petrol and a turbocharged diesel engine. We all know that Tata Motors has been planning for a long time to introduce a new turbo petrol motor for this premium hatch. Finally, it seems that its launch is just around the corner as the Specs and Price of the upcoming Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol have leaked online. Here we have for you all the details about it.
First of all, let's discuss why Tata Motors is bringing a new turbocharged petrol engine for the Altroz? So, the answer is that at present, the Altroz gets a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged Revotorq diesel engine. This diesel motor churns out 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It also gets a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine. This NA petrol motor churns out 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. It is also mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and there is no automatic transmission on offer.
The diesel motor of the Altroz is too good but the three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol motor of the premium hatch feels a bit underwhelming. Thus, the Altroz truly needs a turbocharged petrol motor as it is a premium hatch and the rivals offer better powertrain options. The Tata Altroz is no doubt a great car inside and out but until now, its powertrain failed to lure the buyers. Thus, to make it a better all-round package, the company will plonk in a turbocharged petrol engine in the Altroz. The turbo petrol motor will only be offered in the top-spec trims of the Altroz.

Talking about the powertrain, so it will get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This is the same engine that also powers the Tata Nexon but it will be available in a lower state of tune. This 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor will churn out 110 PS of power at 5500 RPM and 140 Nm of peak torque between 1500-5500 RPM. It will come mated to Tata's TA65 manual gearbox which is a 5-speed unit. The company will also introduce a 7-speed (DCT) dual-clutch transmission with the Altroz at a later point of time. Now, let's have a look at the variant-wise (leaked) price of the upcoming Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol:
