Tata Azura Trademark: What Does it Mean for Curvv's Future?
Tata Motors recently created quite a buzz in the automotive world by trademarking a new name earlier this year - Azura. It appears that they might be gearing up to introduce a compact SUV in the Indian market under this new brand. However, amidst this excitement, there's also a question looming in the air: will the production version of the Curvv, a name that's been in discussions, end up being called Curvv?
Tata Motors has had its fair share of intriguing naming choices in the past, as we saw with the Buzzard, which eventually became the Safari. This has left many enthusiasts wondering about what name Tata might choose for their upcoming vehicle.
According to the trademark application, Tata Motors Ltd. filed for the name Azura on 5th January 2023, and as of 11th September 2023, it has been accepted and advertised. This development has sparked speculations about whether Azura will be the chosen moniker for Tata's forthcoming compact coupe SUV.

Tata Azura: What to Expect?
Earlier this year, at the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata Motors unveiled the Curvv as an electric vehicle concept. However, what caught everyone's attention was the surprise ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) version of the Curvv concept. The buzz was that both the EV and ICE versions were set to make their debut next year, with back-to-back unveilings.
Recent images that have emerged suggest that the test mules of Curvv share remarkable similarities with the upcoming Nexon facelift. This resemblance is most evident in the front fascia and much of the interior design. Notably, the side profile of the Nexon and Curvv (or Azura or Frest) appears strikingly similar. Moving from the C-pillars, the Nexon transforms into a stylish coupe SUV, extending beyond the 4-meter mark. The wheel design also appears reminiscent of the Nexon facelift, though Tata may opt for 17-inch wheels, considering the segment.

As for the interior, Tata might offer the same 12.3-inch touchscreen system found in the Nexon EV. Additionally, features such as an electronic handbrake, electrically adjustable seats, a fully digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, and more could enhance the overall comfort and convenience of the Curvv.
In terms of powertrain options, we could potentially expect Tata to introduce their brand-new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine or possibly opt for the tried-and-tested 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine found in the Nexon, albeit with a more robust tuning for increased performance. Moreover, there's a reasonable chance of a diesel engine variant being offered as well.
Verdict
The anticipated launch could be slated for 2024. Whether it meets our expectations or introduces an entirely new vehicle will hinge on the future. It's set to take on formidable competitors such as Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, and more.
