Does the Tata Blackbird SUV really exist? Is Tata Motors planning to launch it in India? A lot of questions remain unanswered but the curiosity levels around this upcoming SUV remain high. Are you also looking for the right answers around this new product? We decided to clear the air through this quick article on the Tata Blackbird
Where does it fit in?
Tata Motors currently has a line up of successful SUVs that also include the Nexon and the Harrier. While the Nexon is a proper sub 4m compact SUV that is has a starting price of Rs 7.6 lakh, the Harrier is a mid-size offering that carries a starting sticker price of Rs 14.7 lakh. Clearly, there is a vacuum between both the offerings and Tata Motors could target this very segment.
What about rivals
The lower end of the mid-size SUVs is dominated by the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. These have a starting price of just over Rs 10 lakh. The similar segment also has options like the MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq and the VW Taigun. So yes, the Blackbird will have a lot of rivals even before launch. But that said, this segment is growing rapidly and we are sure Tata too wants a piece of the chunk.

Tata Blackbird Price & Launch Date
It is fair to assume that when and if launched, the Tata Blackbird could be priced from Rs 10.5 lakh onwards. Yes, the base versions would overlap with the higher variants of the Nexon but this is something we see with the Venue-Creta and the Sonet-Seltos as well. Launch time frame is something we can't comment right now but knowing Tata Motors, they could very well showcase the production ready model at the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo
Tata Blackbird Images & Specs
Tata Motors has been extremely tight lipped when it comes to disclosing any information on the SUV. The images we have shared here are renders and the actual product could vary a lot. On the engine front, the Tata Blackbird could be offered with both a 1.5-litre turbo diesel and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol. These are the same units that power the Nexon as well. An EV version, at a later stage, can be expected as well.
