Tata is all set to enter into the micro SUV segment with the HBX and once launched, it will take on the likes of Maruti Ignis and the upcoming Hyundai Casper. From the leaked spy shot shared on the internet, the production model of the HBX resembles its elder sibling, Nexon. In this article, we bring a detailed comparison of HBX and Nexon and share the similarities and differences between these two. Let's get started with our Tata HBX vs Nexon comparison -
Tata HBX vs Nexon - Design
The design of any car plays an important role as it is literally the first impression the wider audience gets. In this case, Tata Motors has played safe as the HBX design resembles a lot like Nexon. At the front, the micro SUV gets the split headlight design setup with LED daytime running lights on the top and headlights at the bottom. Or the top portion could house the indicators as well. The actual information is not yet out.
The bulky bumper design is where the HBX borrows some inspiration from the Nexon along with the bi-arrow grille design. This image is based on the top-end variant so you can also notice the fog lights. Moving towards the side profile, the dual-tone alloy wheels are borrowed from the Nexon but the design is a little bit different. Do notice the body-coloured door handles and the roof rails. The roof rails surely give the HBX a SUVish stance but we don't know if they'll be functional or not.

The rear profile of the HBX looks subtle when compared with the front and doesn't add much drama. You get wraparound taillights and vertical reflectors at the rear. Overall, the HBX definitely passes the micro SUV segment with its design.
On the other hand, Tata Nexon packs in a different design altogether that is different from the compact SUVs present in the market. Instead of the conventional tall boy look, it rather gets a rounded up look with a coupe-like roofline. It packs in projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, 16-inch alloy wheels and more. Just recently, Tata Motors brought in the dark edition for the same and it looks menacing.

This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and we expect an AMT too. There's not much info if Tata will bring in a 1.2L turbo petrol engine as seen on the Altroz.
The Nexon sources its power from the 1.2L turbocharged petrol unit. This generates 118 bhp with 170 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed stick shift as standard and an optional AMT is observed in the Nexon. The ARAI certified figures of the manual version of Nexon sticks to 17.4 kmpl while for the AMT it is 16 kmpl.

Tata Nexon also comes with a diesel engine but since the HBX will only be powered by a petrol unit, we thought it'll be wiser to pitch the petrol against the petrol.
