Tata Motors Eyeing On Expanding Its CNG Lineup - Details

Tata Motors is on a spree to expand the number of EV and ICE vehicles in its lineup by introducing new models or updating the powertrains of the existing models. It appears that the company now has plans to increase its CNG product offerings. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra acknowledged the company's intention to increase its CNG portfolio across all pertinent segments in an interview with PTI.

The Tiago and Tigor are currently available with CNG powertrains from Tata Motors. A 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder bi-fuel engine powers both cars. The engine has a maximum output of 95 Nm of peak torque and 72 bhp of power in CNG mode. The Altroz, Punch, and Nexon could be contenders when considering the upcoming CNG vehicles. Since all three of these vehicles have the same 1.2-liter petrol engine as the Tiago and Tigor, upgrading them to CNG won't be difficult for the brand.

The Tiago and Tigor CNG provide the same 85 bhp of power and 113 Nm of peak torque in petrol mode as the Altroz and Punch. The Nexon, on the other hand, is anticipated to produce more power and torque because its engine is tailored to different levels of torque and power.

Neither the premium hatchback segment nor any micro or compact SUV now comes with a factory-fitted CNG powertrain. If the Punch, Altroz, and Nexon will come in CNG versions, Tata Motors will be able to attract a sizeable customer base. In the future, the Glanza and Baleno, the Altroz's main competitors, might also receive a CNG powertrain. Before this, a document detailing Glanza CNG's specifications appeared online. The price difference between the regular petrol variants and the upcoming CNG versions of the current Tata lineup could vary from Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
