Tata is on a spree to cement itself in the emerging EV car scene of India. One of the main contributing factors is the early ICE to EV transformation of its popular models. This has helped the car giant to put itself as an instant recall in the Indian EV space. As a result, there are currently 3 electric models in its arsenal- the Tata Tiago EV, the Tata Tigor EV, and the Tata Nexon EV.

However, expanding its line-up, Tata Punch EV is set to be the late entrant with an ICE to EV transformation. As per some reports, the Punch EV could very much be here around the end of October 2023. Let's look at some details of this incoming 'Micro' SUV.

Tata Motors is gearing up for an array of new car launches, including the 2023 Nexon and Nexon EV facelifts scheduled for September 14. According to some reports, the next offering from the Indian automaker is the Tata Punch EV. The pricing details are expected to be revealed in late October this year. And rightly so, the Punch EV test mule has been papped on quite a few occasions, where it can be seen docked to a charging station, an evidence of its electric nature.

One key change, also a Tata's first is the front grille-mounted charging port. This is something that the most recent spy shot suggests. There have been discussions about the possibility of the Punch EV being equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, a distinctive alloy wheel design, and the typical styling updates associated with electric vehicles.

The Tata Punch EV's interior is also receiving a notable upgrade, featuring a sleek two-spoke steering wheel with touch controls and an illuminated Tata logo, akin to the upcoming Tata Nexon facelift. Additionally, it boasts an electronic parking brake, an armrest, and a jewel-like rotary gear selector dial on the center console, taking cues from the Nexon EV's design.

Tata Punch EV Expected Powertrain

The upcoming Tata Punch EV, based on the ALFA platform and powered by Tata's gen-2 EV architecture, will feature a liquid-cooled battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor for front-wheel drive Anticipated to offer versatility, the Punch EV is likely to offer two battery pack choices. Meanwhile, a driving range of 250- 300 kilometers per full charge can be expected. However, there is still no official update about the powertrain and other specs.

Expected Price And Rivals

The Tata Punch EV competes with the Citroen eC3 (Rs 11.50-12.43 lakh). Tata aims to position it as an SUV alternative to the Tigor EV (Rs 12.49-13.75 lakh), suggesting a price range in that vicinity. Keep watching this space for more details as the launch date approaches.
