Tata Punch Spotted Parked Alongside Nexon - Looks Almost As Big

Tata Motors India is ready to officially launch its micro utility vehicle in the Indian market this festive season. Dubbed Tata Punch, the new model will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100.

Tata has already revealed the looks of the car through a set of official images. Clearly, the Punch looks a bit similar to Harrier and Safari from front. The new model presents a combination of tough utility with sporty dynamics.

The new model will be positioned as the brand's entry-level SUV. Also, the Punch is the second product from Tata to be underpinned by Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture (ALFA-ARC) after the premium hatchback Altroz.  Tata Punch is positioned just below the Nexon and so, it is a shoe-size smaller. The micro-SUV is 3,380 mm long, 1,822 mm wide and 1,635 mm tall. It is approximately 153mm shorter and 11mm wider than the Nexon.

The Tata Punch is also 29mm taller than the Nexon. This is the reason why Punch and Nexon seem to be of almost the same size. The Punch has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm, which is about 48 mm lesser than what you ge on the Nexon. However, the proportions of the Punch are such that it will surely have a better road presence.

The car carries familiarities as it is designed under the Impact 2.0 philosophy. The car looks highly similar to its HBX Concept which was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. It comes with

Tata Punch comes with Tatas signature humanity line that has small tri-arrow detailing and glossy black finish. Upfront, Punch gets the similar headlamps setup from its elder siblings, Harrier and Safari. The main headlight is placed at the bumper with LED DRLs on the muscular bonnet. The front structure of the car looks muscular and bold. On the other hand, Nexon comes with regular headlamps and fog lamps with a black grille.

The looks of the car are further enhanced with flared wheel arches and black claddings on the side profile. The huge wheel arches are flanked by 16-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels. From rear, it features LED tail-lamps with the same tri-arrow design language as seen in the Nexon.

Tata Punch will be available with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which churns out 85 bhp of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard and will be even available with an optional five-speed AMT. There is a possibility that Tata would also introduce a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine at a later stage.

It is expected that the Tata Punch will be launched at an aggressive starting price of Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will cost up to Rs 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The new model will be available in 12 colour schemes- three monotone and nine dual-tone. So, what are your views on the looks of the Tata Punch in comparison with those of the Tata Nexon?
