- Tata has revealed a near-production version of the Sierra EV concept
- Based on ALFA ARC, it will first debut as an EV & then with ICE
Tata Motors revealed the Sierra EV concept at the 2023 auto expo. The new generation of Sierra was first showcased as an electric SUV at the 2020 auto expo. Compared to the concept model shown at the 2020 auto expo, the current concept model is much closer to the production specs. According to Tata, the Sierra will first come as an EV and later in the ICE configuration. The electric Sierra will be positioned between the Nexon EV and Harrier EV, and it would be advertised as an electric lifestyle SUV.
Design & Styling:
The overall design language of the Sierra has evolved from the previous concept shown at the 2020 auto expo. While in the previous concept, there were extensively large and concept-type alloys, the current concept gets much more practical and production-ready alloys. Also, while the previous concept had a sliding-type rear door just on the left side of the vehicle, the new concept gets conventional-type rear doors on both sides of the vehicle. The uniquely designed and molded glass flowing from the roof to the rear window line in the precious concept vehicle has also been replaced with a conventional type large panoramic sunroof in the current concept vehicle. There are also changes in the choices of materials and interior finishes of the Sierra EV. However, there still remain flush-type door handles on the outside.
Possible Drivetrain:
Expected to launch sometime in 2025, the Sierra EV will most probably get Tata's next-gen Ziptron powertrain with a large battery pack, probably 60 to 80kWh. As Tata wants to place it as a lifestyle SUV, it could be offered with a driving range between 600 to 800km. After the electric version, Tata might also launch an ICE-powered Sierra with a 1.2L or 1.5L TGDi petrol engine, both of which were also showcased at the 2023 auto expo.

Verdict: When launched in 2025, Tata Sierra EV would be based on Tata's second-generation EV platform which is derived from the automaker's ALFA ARC (Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture). This means that Sierra EV would be a 2nd generation EV from Tata Motors just like the Harrier EV showcased at the auto expo. Therefore, Sierra EV would also get the next-gen advanced connected car, ADAS & AWD tech.
