Tata Sierra First-Ever Spy Shots: Nostalgia Re-Wrapped

The Tata Sierra generated considerable buzz at the Auto Expo 2025 with its near-production debut, but that was just about it with no additional info from the brand. Now, spy shots of the SUV's testing have emerged for the first time ever, offering a glimpse of the Sierra. This particular prototype is almost certainly the internal combustion engine version, as it features prominent air intakes in the lower bumper. This design detail will differentiate it from the all-electric Sierra EV, which will have a completely closed-off front end. Interestingly, it is the surrounding glass area extending to the roof that is very peculiar to the Sierra and makes it stand out in the crowd.

Despite the heavy camouflage, the split headlamp arrangement and the connected LED taillight bar are clearly visible. Inside, the Sierra showcased at the Auto Expo 2025 boasted a striking triple-screen layout, a digital instrument cluster, and a distinctive four-spoke steering wheel. While Tata hasn't officially announced the full list of features, it's safe to assume the production model will pack plenty of advanced technology and safety equipment and also a star-studded safety rating, as per the trend followed by other new Tata launches.

Engine: Petrol And Diesel
While Tata Motors hasn't officially released the powertrain specifications for the combustion-engine version of the Sierra, speculation points towards a couple of likely candidates. A 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine, reportedly producing 170hp and 280Nm of torque, is a strong possibility. A 2.0-litre diesel engine is also anticipated, which is the same engine found in the Harrier. Notably, the Sierra will also be introduced in an electric guise, but it is likely to follow sometime after the ICE models. It could offer a choice of battery packs, ranging from 60 kWh to 80 kWh, and potentially both single and dual-motor configurations with all-wheel drive with an expected range of around 500 km.
Verdict
The Sierra moniker strikes nostalgia, and Tata is dedicated to ressurect this iscon from the past, in an all new veil this time around. The model showcased at the Auto Expo 2025 attracted a high interest and while the interiors were kept away from peeking eyes, the cabin is expected to lead the SUV fleet of Tata's portfolio. However, the pricing and final product will determine if it could perform better than the Safari, or face the same fate. Personally, I would love to see this icon recieving its fare share of love and appreciation.
