The upcoming 2024 Tata Blackbird SUV is under development. The new SUV from Tata will be bigger than the Nexon and rival Hyundai Creta, KIA Seltos.
Tata Motors is on a spree of introducing new products to the global markets. Going to add soon to the existing product lineup of Tata is the upcoming 2024 Tata Blackbird SUV. The new SUV is expected to debut by the end of 2023 or the start of 2024 with new design & technical features. Here's what we know so far and what to expect from the upcoming SUV from Tata.
Tata Blackbird Design & Features
Tata is designing the upcoming SUV over the tested and proven X1 platform. This platform is extensively used in the Tata Nexon SUV which is currently the best seller in the segment. According to the various reports published over the internet, the upcoming Blackbird SUV is likely to embrace a longer wheelbase. It is expected that the new car might have 50mm more wheelbase as compared to the Nexon.
The long-wheelbase design will help achieve the Blackbird a long overhang at the rear. This will accommodate the new rear design with a tapering roofline that shall provide the SUV with a coupe-like design. The long-wheelbase will also mean more rear-seat space. This shall take place via the redesigning of the rear doors; in size as well as shape.
Tata engineers might also redesign the front end to differentiate it from the Nexon. As Tata has received mixed feedback about the Tata Safari being similar looking to the Tata Harrier. The new Blackbird will have a different design to make it stand apart; as Tata would not want the same to happen twice like the Harrier & Safari.
Tata Blackbird Engine Options
As the EV era is heading to its prime and Tata is contributing the most in the electric car segment; we expect the Blackbird to debut in the EV avatar. But, this will not be the only case as Tata might introduce it with a plethora of ICE-powertrain options. These might include petrol as well as diesel engine options. But, as per the reports over the internet, the main focus will remain on the EV powertrain.
Tata Nexon EV's success has pushed Tata to work on more electric products. The recent addition is going to be the long-range Nexon EV which is set to launch soon. For the Blackbird, the same bigger 40kWh motor might be used when the new car makes it to launch. Also, we expect Tata to fit the reliable 1.5-lt petrol engine which is being developed for the upcoming Tata Harrier Petrol. Also, the diesel powertrain might be the 1.5-Lt, Nexon-sourced engine. Gearbox options will include a mix of manual as well as automatic options.
Tata Blackbird SUV Launch, Price & Rvials
It is expected that the new coupe-SUV will make entry around the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. Once launched, it will directly rival the likes of the Korean SUVs which include the Hyundai Creta & KIA Seltos. We expect the pricing to hover somewhere around Rs 11 - 15 Lakhs.
