Bajaj CNG Bike Details: Design, Engine, Price, Launch Date
In a recent interview given to CNBC-TV18, Mr Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, Bajaj Auto Ltd, confirmed that the CNG bike is under development. He also confirmed that it'll launch by the next quarter of this year. Moreover, it'll be a revolutionary product with operating costs as less as 50-65 percent than the ICE motorcycles.
Adding in the interview, Mr Rajiv also claimed that the CNG prototype has been successful in cutting down the CO2 emissions by 50 percent while the carbon mono oxide has been cut by 75 percent. The most remarkable cutdown witnessed is in the non-methane hydrocarbon emissions which are down by 90 percent.
Moreover, Bajaj claims that the increasing running costs for ICE vehicles and the lack of affordable yet efficient products have led to the development of the alternative fuel CNG bike. While no details about the platform, design, etc., have been revealed till now; we suspect that it'll be based on the CT 110X. The rugged and spacious platform of the CT 110X will give ease of use in tier-2 and tier-3 cities; which Bajaj aims primarily via it.
The pricing of it can be a tricky part but Bajaj surely knows how to handle the price as well as cost-benefit ratios altogether. As affordability is the prime target, we suspect that this bike will not jump the Rs 90,000 mark once launched.
Verdict
The alternative fuel engines have been in a consistent demand globally. However, very less experimentation have been done in India, especially in two-wheelers. With the Bajaj CNG bike, a new segment will form and other competitors will also start developing newer products.
