Hyundai Exter - A Competent Rival Of Tata Punch?
As seen in a recently uploaded video online, the Exter model has started arriving at dealerships. The one that you can see here, seems to be a top-spec of the Exter. Additionally, it is draped in a unique Olive colour shade that seems to be a promotional colour for the car. Hyundai will step into the micro-SUV segment of India via the Exter. The current rival of it is the Tata Punch; which seems to be doing well in terms of sales for now. However, Exter is bound to provide more features than Punch.
Speaking of its design, it'll get a boxy shape with H-shaped LED DRLs and projector LED headlights. Also, the rear will be supported via a sloping roof design and H-shaped LED taillights. Apart from this, it'll feature design elements like the bumper scuff plates & fender garnish to make it look like a proper mini-SUV. Meanwhile, its interiors will see a common sharing of design with the Venue & Grand i10 NIOS. The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment will get Android Auto & Apple CarPlay while there will be a 4-inch digital MID for the driver as seen on the current Verna.
Mechanically, it'll get a 1.2-lt NA petrol sourced from the Aura sedan. This engine makes a peak power of 84 bhp & a peak torque of 113 Nm. It'll be offered with an option of a 5-speed MT & 5-speed AMT transmission. Moreover, the CNG powertrain will be carried forward from the Aura as well. This engine makes a peak power of 67.72 bhp & it comes mated to a 5-speed MT gearbox.
Verdict
The Exter micro-SUV is one of the most-awaited car launches of this year in India. It'll become a direct competitor to the Punch as well as the Citroen C3 & the Maruti Ignis. Its expected price is Rs 6-10 lakh (ex-showroom). Hyundai will launch it in India on 10 July & we'll be there to cover the launch and bring you all of the updates related to it.
