Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 - To Be Called Sherpa 650?
The spied-on test mule shares a lot of cycle parts with the Interceptor 650. Therefore, we assume that it'll be based on the Interceptor platform. For example, the chassis and the fuel tank are similar to the Interceptor. Additionally, it features a single seat with more cushioning. Even the handlebar and the headlight are similar to the Interceptor. With that said, it does have differences to make it a proper Scrambler.
At the sides, it gets scuff plates, also the spoke rims and block-pattern rubber are fitted to provide grip during trail riding. The blacked-out engine casing and components are similar to the current 650s but the exhaust design is unique. The two-in-one layout of the exhaust pipes has a single-end can that is placed near the centre of the bike. Thus, its centre of gravity will be in the middle hence providing more agility. We saw a similar design with the Hunter 350 to enhance agility.
There have been rumours that RE will name it Sherpa 650. In fact, RE has also registered the brand name of Sherpa. However, the majority of the bike will still be a 650 underneath. Therefore, we expect similar performance as we see on the Interceptor. This parallel-twin 648cc engine makes 47 bhp of peak power & 52 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Verdict - When Will It Launch?
The Scrambler 650 looks almost production-ready. However, RE has lined up other motorcycles before it introduces the Scrambler 650 to the world. The upcoming Himalayan 450 & Classic 650 will debut by the end of 2023. But, the Scrambler 650 is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2024 globally. Therefore, its India launch might take place by mid-2024. We're expecting that it'll be priced around Rs 3 lakh.
