In recent times, the affordable adventure tourers and the dual-purpose motorcycles have got really very popular in the Indian market. The first successful affordable ADV for the mass-market buyers in India was the Royal Enfield Himalayan. Following it, the Hero Xpulse 200 came into the picture and it became the most affordable ADV in the country. KTM India also ventured into this segment with the 390 Adventure and now they have the 250 ADV too. And now, it seems that Yamaha is gonna launch an ADV very soon. The company has recently trademarked the Yamaha FZ-X in India and here we have for you all the details about it.
Now, as Yamaha Motor India has trademarked the Yamaha FZ-X, let us try to guess what this upcoming motorcycle can be and why? So, if we consider the nomenclature of adventure motorcycles, most of them have 'X' in their name. For example, we have the Hero Xpulse 200. Earlier, we also had the Kawasaki Versys X-300, Triumph Tiger 800 XR, Tiger 800 XRx, Tiger 800 XCx, etc. So, yes most of the adventure motorcycles have 'X' in their name and so we believe the Yamaha FZ-X will be a new upcoming adventure motorcycle from this Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer in India. If you remember, just a few months ago - in late 2019, Yamaha Motor India has already shown keen interest in developing an affordable adventure motorcycle specifically for the Indian market.

At that time, it was reported that Yamaha will utilise the FZ 25's platform for the upcoming adventure motorcycle. This means that the company is planning to launch a quarter-litre adventure motorcycle in India. But, it might also be possible that Yamaha will initially launch a very affordable entry-level adventure motorcycle in the country based on the FZ-S to gauge the response of the Indian audience. However, if reports are to be believed, the upcoming Yamaha FZ-X will most likely share its powerplant with the FZ 25. This means that it will be powered by a BS6-compliant 249cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC, four-stroke, fuel-injected engine. This motor in the ADV will most likely churn out 20.8 PS of power at 8,000 RPM and 20.1 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 RPM. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Along with the BS6 update, the Yamaha FZ 25 received a major overhaul earlier this year. However, it has been consistently not selling well in the Indian market and so the new ADV based on it might lure the customers. The upcoming Yamaha FZ-X has been currently only trademarked in India and we believe it might be launched by the second half of 2021. The price of the Yamaha FZ 25 BS6 currently starts at Rs. 1.52 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi and the new ADV will surely charge a premium over the FZ 25.
